Fringe woohoo!!!

It is Fringe festival time once again!! My favourite time of year to celebrate independent artistic voices. The Fringe Festival in Toronto is extremely near and dear to my heart because to me Fringe represents opportunity. An opportunity to experience live performance as well as produce pieces that may otherwise not get a voice. So this year I am so proud of my students who are starring in Fringe productions of their own!! So get on out there, support the community, and take advantage of the massive selection of creation taking place. Some will be great, some will be cringe-worthy, all will be live, made from love and only possible by somebody's risk. So cheers to all the creators out there making a splash this week and a very special congratulations to my students taking the plunge!!

Firstly to my students Emily Dickinson and Bobby Del Rio starring with Matthew Krist and Maria Wodzinska in COWBOY MOUTH written by Sam Shephard and Patti Smith.

It’s 1971 at some crazy hotel in some crazy place. Could be some bordertown motel near El Paso, could be the infamous Chelsea Hotel, New York, New York. Slim and Cavale will rip your heart out and take you higher than all revelations with a hot and sizzling surrealist love story.

Next congrats to my student Valentyn Korottkevytch starring in South Paw Script's production of LA CUCINA written by John Bressan.
In WW2, young Carlo Scorsini was a Partisan fighter in Italy. By 1950 he was on his way to Canada determined to start a new life. Years later, his son Elio purchases the family’s abandoned farm only to learn of the tragic events that befell his grandfather and aunt’s family. Despite his Italian heritage, could he ever feel at home in the new, modern Italy?

Finally congrats to my student Tiffany Kwan who is not only a cast member of but also wrote a sketch for ASIANSPLOITATION: BE MORE PACIFIC
Asiansploitation creates sketch comedy with a slant.

A collective of Asian-Canadian writers and performers who strive to examine, critique, and re-imagine the society in which we live, through comedy. We seek to expose the human condition and laugh at it with our audiences; we seek to create work that is reflective of and accessible to a broad and diverse audience.

Over the past ten years, Asiansploitation has created 9 original revues, plus remounts, and have performed across the GTA – garnering critical acclaim and developing a dedicated audience base. The Toronto Star describes our work as “comedy with strong cultural influences that also appeals to a broader audience.”

A long overdue huge congratulations to my student Jess Salgueiro

Picture
2016 has been a banner year for Jess and there are only more great things to come. She has now completed her second season as Nurse Cabrera on CTV's Saving Hope, booked a role on the sci-fi series "Seraphim" and the film "Serialized". She can also be seen in the latest episode of "Private Eyes", Jason Priestley's new show. In addition to this work she continues to act in a several independent projects, including
"O
n Top" at the Tarragon, solidifying herself as a force in Toronto's film and theatre scene.

Picture
Jess has been a student at the Robyn Kay Studio for over 3 years and I have been honoured to witness staggering growth in this woman who makes an indelible impression on everyone she encounters. Her commitment to the craft, unwavering passion for humanity and her tornado heart make her a joy to watch and an inspiration at the studio. Jess, I do not say this lightly, I truly look forward to what is to come for you because you are just at the beginning of your success, in career, art, love and life. I do believe your contributions to this world as a woman and an artist will be considerable and I wish you all the joy and pain this journey will bring.
Congratulations!!
